
When Emily and Alexander entered the Séraphine Hotel, the young woman was immediately struck by the atmosphere of luxury and power that permeated the place. The grand entrance hall was a hymn to opulence, with its gilded moldings, crystal chandeliers, and polished marble floors.
But more than the lavish décor, it was the army of servants and guards that left the strongest impression on Emily. They seemed to be everywhere, moving about their tasks with silent efficiency, like shadows serving their master.
Aware of her nakedness and her filth, Emily suddenly felt miserable, unworthy of walking on that immaculate floor. Yet, as she timidly followed Alexander, she realized no one was looking at her. The servants stepped aside as they passed, heads bowed in submission, while the guards stared straight ahead, impassive.
